Choose the receiver before the testing site
The most important question is not “Which appointment is easiest?” It is “Which exam will my nursing program accept?” ATI explicitly tells applicants to check school requirements before registering. Some programs limit remote exams, outside locations, score age, or the number of attempts. Purchases may be final even when the school will not use the score.
The four official testing routes
- Online, ATI proctor: take it at home under ATI's remote-proctor rules.
- Online, institution proctor: take it remotely in a session managed by a school or testing center.
- In person, institution: test on a campus or institution testing site.
- In person, PSI: schedule at an available PSI testing center after purchasing through ATI.

Ask these five questions before paying
- Which proctors and locations does the program accept?
- What is the final date on which the score may be received?
- How many attempts count, and what waiting period applies?
- Does the included transcript go to the correct school automatically?
- What ID, technology, accommodations, and rescheduling rules apply?
Save the written answer or policy page. If advice from a forum conflicts with the program, the program controls your application.
Schedule backward, not forward
Begin with the score deadline, subtract transcript-processing time, preserve the required waiting period for one retake, and only then select the first appointment. That may place your first attempt weeks earlier than expected. Our application timeline shows the full backward-planning method.
Common questions
Can I take the TEAS online at home?
Yes. ATI lists remote exams proctored by ATI or an institution. Your school may restrict which administration types it accepts, so verify before registering.
Can I take the TEAS at any school?
A testing site may let non-applicants test, but the program receiving your score may reject exams taken at an unapproved location. Confirm both sides first.
Can I take the TEAS at a PSI center?
ATI offers in-person TEAS appointments at PSI centers. Confirm that your nursing program accepts a PSI-administered transcript before purchase.
Does registration include a transcript?
ATI says one official transcript is included, but where it goes and whether delivery is automatic depends on the administration type.
