How the coach works
Most TEAS Math questions are word problems, and they go wrong in small places: the wrong number pulled from the story, a percent left as 35 instead of 0.35, the new price used where the original belongs. Work the problem, type your answer, and check it.
Do the math in the scratch pad beside the problem; it keeps every line and guesses what you are working out. Or press "Walk me through it" and Amira, the TEAS Math tutor, asks one small question at a time and names the rule behind each step.
- Problems are written ahead of time, not generated: percents (percent of, percent change, discounts, tax and tips), ratios and proportions (best buys, fractions of a whole), algebra word problems, US and metric conversions, geometry (area, perimeter, circles, volume), and data (mean, median, the score you need). Next serves the next problem from the types you have switched on, without repeats until the set runs out.
- The answer box comes first. Check as many times as you like. Type a decimal, a fraction like 3/4, or a dollar amount.
- "Walk me through it" breaks the problem into short questions from your tutor. Numbers are typed; questions like "Which equation fits?" or "Which proportion is set up right?" are multiple choice. A wrong number gets one more try. When it is a classic slip, such as the perimeter where the area belongs, the diameter where the radius belongs, or the new price as the base of a percent change, the tutor names it.
- After each step the tutor writes out the work and the rule it used: percent to decimal is ÷ 100, percent change divides by the original, a proportion keeps matching units in the same places. Conversions are written as a dimensional-analysis chain with the cancelled units struck out.
- Pick your tutor from the TEAS team: Amira (Math), Ada (Science), Nora (Reading), and Lin (English). Amira is the default. Every tutor asks the same questions in their own voice, and the walk-through is scripted, not an AI chat.
- The scratch pad is a calculator that keeps every line and reads it against the problem — type 0.35 × 240 on a 35%-of-240 problem and it reads it as the part you are looking for. When a line lands on the answer, it fills the answer box for you to check.
- Geometry problems draw the shape, data problems put the values on a number line, and percent problems shade a 100% bar, filling in as you work. The conversions and formulas panel is one tap away. The real TEAS gives you a four-function calculator; π is 3.14 here, as most TEAS items state.
Why it works
Questions people ask
- What math is on the TEAS?
- The TEAS 7 Math section has 38 questions in 57 minutes, in two areas: Numbers and Algebra (fractions, decimals, percents, ratios, proportions, equations, and word problems) and Measurement and Data (conversions, geometry, and reading and summarizing data).
- Can I use a calculator on the TEAS?
- Yes. The TEAS provides a four-function calculator on screen. The scratch pad here works the same way and keeps every line of your work.
- Do I need an account?
- No. The coach is free to use without signing in. After a few problems, signed-out visitors see an optional link to start NurseSavvy TEAS prep and save progress.
- Can I skip the steps?
- Yes. The answer box is always there; the steps only open when you press "Walk me through it". If you get the answer right without them, the worked steps are still there to look at.
