Kaplan Integrated Tests in Nursing School: What They Are and How to Prepare

Kaplan Integrated Tests are the secure course exams in Kaplan’s Nursing Integrated Testing program, scored as a national percentile. Focused Review tests are the practice side, and the Secure Predictor at the end estimates your chance of passing the NCLEX. Test names and lengths vary by school, and Kaplan does not publish question counts.

Two kinds of Kaplan test

  • Focused Review tests: practice quizzes your instructor assigns (or you build by topic), with rationales. Unsecured.
  • Integrated Tests: secure, proctored, and nationally normed, given in a course. Names seen in Kaplan’s 2019 educator blog and a school handbook include Fundamentals, Pharmacology, Med/Surg, Maternal Child and Pediatrics, and Psychosocial.

How they are graded

You get a percent correct and a national percentile, and schools grade by the percentile. At Marian University, for example, the 70th percentile or higher earns full credit in senior courses, and at NYIT Kaplan counts for at most 10% of a course grade. Your school’s rules are the ones that count.

  3. Week 3 · mixed practice

How to study for a Kaplan Integrated Test

  1. Measure first. Take the Focused Review tests your school assigns. They are the unsecured practice side of Kaplan’s program; the Integrated Test is the secure one.
  2. Fix the misses, not the whole book. Read every rationale, including on questions you got right by guessing.
  3. Relearn by system, then mix. Learn each weak area with short recall sessions (on NurseSavvy, the topic’s cards and cheat sheet), then answer mixed questions so you practice choosing the area, not just answering inside it.
  4. Spend the last days on priority and safety. These exams are written in the NCLEX style: what do you do first, which finding do you report, what does the teaching need to correct. Our priority-question guide covers the reasoning.
  5. Stop the night before. Sleep is the last study session.
